Project-based Learning
Project-Based Learning (PBL) at A-School
Future-Ready Learning for the AI Era
In today's AI-driven world, students need more than knowledge — they need to think critically, create innovative solutions, collaborate effectively, communicate with confidence, and act with character and purpose. At HKBUAS Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School (A-School), our whole-school Project-Based Learning (PBL) programme develops these 5Cs through authentic, interdisciplinary challenges.
Our PBL Program extends learning beyond the classroom, developing self-directed, self-regulated, and reflective learners who can apply knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to solve real-world problems and thrive in the 21st century.
Stage-Appropriate Approaches
Junior School (G1–4)
Students engage in guided, play-based inquiry projects that spark curiosity and creativity. Through hands-on exploration, storytelling, and collaborative tasks, they build foundational skills in questioning, observing, and sharing ideas in age-appropriate ways.
Middle School & beyond (G5-9)
Students tackle more complex, interdisciplinary challenges aligned with real-world contexts. They apply design thinking to investigate problems, work in teams, and develop solutions that integrate knowledge across subjects while strengthening independence and resilience.
Across both stages, students follow a human-centred Design Thinking process:
- Discover — Explore real-world challenges through empathy-driven interviews, observations, and research.
- Define — Frame meaningful problems and set clear goals based on user insights.
- Develop — Ideate, prototype, and refine creative solutions through iterative testing.
- Deliver — Deliver by prototyping, testing, and pitching impactful solutions.
From Learning to Impact
Each year, our PBL journey culminates in the carnival-like PBL Showcase Day, where students present their findings and solutions to teachers, parents, alumni, and the wider community — celebrating creativity, collaboration, and real-world impact.
